Cherry Creek Greenway Extension in Brevard, North Carolina
Greenway
The Cherry Street Greenway Extension, built in 2015, is an integral part of the City of Brevard’s bike and hike path. Cole Surveying & Design completed the required surveying work for this +-1,500 linear foot greenway as a subconsultant to an engineering firm. We provided extensive GPS observations because it was located within a floodplain, so elevations were critical to the success of the project. In addition, a 2’ topographical survey was required for the design of the bikeway as well as to provide data to the engineer to be able to perform a “No-Rise” certification for a future proposed building to be constructed next to the bikeway. We also provided the required mapping for a FEMA conditional letter of map revision.
The Cherry Street Greenway Extension was built to provide the neighborhood with improved access to Pisgah Forest Elementary School, Davidson River School and the Transylvania Activity Center. The extension also links the rest of the Brevard’s bike/hike greenway with popular north Brevard destinations like Oskar Blues Brewery.
In regard to this project, City of Brevard Mayor Jimmy Harris was quoted as saying, “We’ve been committed to creating a walkable community since I became Mayor fifteen years ago. Our greenway is the embodiment of that commitment. And that commitment is all about connections: connecting people, connecting neighborhoods, connecting businesses and connecting institutions.”
